From 12,000 to 40,000 tonnes a year.
Mongolia’s concentrators are expanding and their media specifications are tightening. The programme more than triples our capacity, automates rolling and heat treatment, and brings production and testing into full compliance with the latest requirements of Oyu Tolgoi, Erdenet and other major mills.
Why now
Demand
Underground expansion at the largest copper mine, higher throughput at the copper-molybdenum concentrator and new gold and iron-ore plants push national media consumption well past 60,000 tonnes a year, almost all imported.
Specifications
Large mills now buy on hardness profile, impact toughness, breakage guarantees and audited process control. Meeting them at scale needs induction heating, automated rolling and continuous heat treatment, not just skilled forging.
Local supply
Concentrators want media from a plant they can audit, with a metallurgist at the mill within a day and no rail border in the supply chain.

The programme
Phase 1 · 2026 – 2027
Automated skew-rolling line with induction heating and continuous quench-and-temper furnace; bar-stock yard and cutting. +16,000 t/yr
Phase 2 · 2027
Second forging line for Ø100 – 125 mm SAG balls; expanded laboratory with automated hardness mapping and drop-ball rigs. +8,000 t/yr; SAG media at scale
Phase 3 · 2028
High-chrome casting cell and finishing; ISO 9001, 45001 and 14001 certification audits. +4,000 t/yr; certified system
Programme figures
Programme scope and figures are current planning assumptions and will be refined as engineering and financing are finalised.
